Improving recognition and encouraging supply

Skills and careers constitute a major activity underpinning ETB’s core mission to improve recognition within UK society of the importance of engineering and technology, and to encourage the ready supply and professional development of appropriately skilled individuals.
The generation of knowledge, ongoing partnerships and dissemination of unbiased information derived from the application of research and the evaluation of successful projects during 2005 and 2006 has given us a platform to establish skills and careers as two of the three ETB mission themes (see Business Plan for full details).
During 2007 our skills work will focus on increasing the awareness of young people to the available vocational and academic skills pathways needed by UK employers. Our careers projects will be centred around the goal of becoming more successful in attracting, inspiring and motivating young people to the diverse engineering employment opportunities open to them.
ETB's current focus in this area is on Continual Professional Development (CPD), and on promoting and supporting the pathways to professional registration. To find out more click here
One of the key issues faced when trying to improve the often negative perception of science, engineering and technology (SET) is supplying good quality unbiased careers information about the SET sector to those who advise young people. To find out more click here
ETB runs a number of annual conferences and attends important skills and careers events nationwide. To find out more click here
